Richard Charnock
Richard CharnockCEO Standard Life Wealth
 

Richard is an executive director of Standard Life Investments and CEO of Standard Life Wealth. He joined Standard Life in February 2007 with a brief to create and launch Standard Life Wealth to the market. Richard oversaw the acquisition of Newton Private client business in 2013 to position Standard Life Wealth as a major provider of discretionary fund management in the UK Wealth management sector.

Alongside heading up Standard life Wealth, Richard was a member of Standard Life UK Executive board from 2010 to 2014 and subsequently became Managing Director of the Adviser and Investment business of Standard Life UK. He had responsibility for all Standard Life retail channel activity in the UK and Ireland and was also CEO of Standard Life Savings with responsibility for the Wrap platform and Fundzone businesses.

Immediately before joining Standard Life, Richard was CEO of Williams de Broe and prior to that he was CEO of Lloyds TSB Private Banking, Lloyds TSB IFA and Lloyds TSB Stockbrokers.

Richard is a board director and Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investments and chairs the CISI Ethics and Integrity Committee. He is also a member of the Worshipful Company of International Bankers and the Cornhill Club. He served with the British army in the mid 1980’s and holds an honours degree in Geography from the University of Durham.

David Driver

David Driver is joint Managing Director at Standard Life Wealth, which he joined from Lloyds Banking Group in 2010. David has built a broad range of experience over many years in finance and investment related roles, and specifically held business leadership roles within private banking and discretionary fund management over the last 15 years. During this time he has managed investment and relationship teams serving high net worth clients, ensuring a clear focus on the needs of the clients remains foremost. He is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (now IFS), a Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and holds an honours degree in Managerial and Administrative Studies from Aston University.

Caroline Tye

Caroline Tye moved to Standard Life Wealth following the acquisition of the Newton private client business in 2013. In addition to managing some of the firm’s wealthiest clients, Caroline manages a team of investment managers. Caroline joined Newton in 1998 and was head of the private client team and a board member. Having begun her career as a private client portfolio manager, Caroline subsequently became the lead manager of flagship private client funds and also managed a number of private investment vehicles and portfolios. She joined Newton from Ernst & Young where she trained as a Chartered Accountant. Caroline has over 14 years of investment experience, is a CFA charterholder, a Chartered Accountant, a Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and has gained the ASIP designation. In addition, she holds an honours degree in Economics from Emmanuel College, Cambridge.

Ronnie Binnie

Ronnie Binnie joined Standard Life Group in 1991 from The Royal Bank of Scotland plc. He initially joined Standard Life as a Financial Planning Consultant, and provided financial advice to both personal and business clients. He is an expert in the intermediary and client management areas, with particular experience in the financial adviser sector. Ronnie is a qualified Chartered Banker, a Chartered Financial Planner , and holds the Investment Management Certificate (IMC).

Andy Brodie

Andy Brodie joined Standard Life Wealth as Head of Operations in July 2015 and is accountable for operations, third party suppliers and change. Previously, Andy worked as an Operations Director at Barclays Wealth and Investment Management and has cross industry experience having worked at O2 Telefonica, BSkyB and the British Army. Andy holds a Masters of Business Administration from Edinburgh University as well as a honours degree from Surrey University.

Aidan Butler

Aidan moved to Standard Life Wealth following the acquisition of the Newton private client business in 2013 and manages portfolios for charities, private clients, trusts and pensions. He joined Newton in 2003 where he was the Head of the Leeds office following six years at Singer & Friedlander Investment Management Ltd. Aidan has 15 years of investment experience, is a qualified chartered accountant, an Associate of the CFA Society of the UK, holds the ASIP designation, is a Member of Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, is a Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and has a degree in economics and statistics from Leeds University.

Mike Connor

Mike Connor moved to Standard Life Wealth following the acquisition of the Newton private client business in 2013 and he manages portfolios for charities, private clients and pensions. He joined Newton in 1987 where he was Head of the Edinburgh office. Mike has over 26 years of investment experience, is a Member of the Scottish Charity Finance Directors’ Group, a Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and holds an MBA from the University of Edinburgh.

John Hair

John Hair moved to Standard Life Wealth following the acquisition of the Newton private client business in 2013 and manages portfolios for charities, private clients, trusts and pensions. John joined Newton in 2002 and was responsible for investment leadership within the private client team. He managed the Income & Growth Model which provided leadership on portfolio construction, stock selection and timing for clients seeking to achieve a balance between income generation and long-term capital growth through direct investment. In addition John was responsible for coverage of the commercial property sector and was a Member of the Asset Class strategy group. John began his career with Henderson in 1994 after graduating from the University of Witwatersrand with a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) Degree in Business Studies. John has over 19 years of investment experience, is an Associate of the CFA Society of the UK, holds the ASIP designation and is a Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments.

Gregg Henderson joined Standard Life Wealth in 2010 from Lloyds TSB Private Banking. As with all our Client Portfolio Managers, Gregg is CF 30 registered with the FCA as an Investment Manager. Before joining Standard Life Wealth, Gregg was a Senior Private Banking Manager and was responsible for managing the affairs of private and corporate clients in the Midlands. Gregg graduated from Birmingham University and is a Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.

Charles Insley moved to Standard Life Wealth following the acquisition of the Newton private client business in 2013 and manages portfolios for private clients, trusts and pensions. Charles joined Newton in 2000 and was Client Director, responsible for the strategic development of the firm’s private client service and communication. Charles has over 15 years of investment experience, is a Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and holds the Investment Management Certificate and the Private Client Investment Advice Diploma. He graduated from Oxford Brookes University with an Honours degree in Applied Statistics and Marketing Management.

Richard Minett

Richard Minett joined Standard Life Wealth in 2007, bringing 30 years’ investment experience in private banking and investment management. In the 1990s, he became directly involved with private client investment management with spells in a well-known city firm of brokers and latterly with a large wealth management arm of a high street bank. His experience includes a spell with a large UK clearing bank, including a one year secondment as Resident Banking Adviser at the Office of the Banking Ombudsman. Richard is a fully qualified Portfolio Manager and brings extensive experience of what is required to deliver a truly excellent investment service.

Darren Ripton

Darren Ripton assumed responsibility for the day-to-day investment process within Standard Life Wealth in 2009, after joining the company in 2007 as a Client Portfolio Manager. He has helped develop the fund selection and portfolio construction process that is used by the business. He has 14 years’ investment experience, 7 of which were spent managing discretionary mandates with ABN Amro Private Bank. Here, his role included the oversight of all investment funds used within mandates in London, Jersey and Gibraltar offices. He is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and holds a BSc from the University of Hertfordshire.

Shona Sklaroff

Shona Sklaroff joined Standard Life Wealth as Head of Business Management and Strategy in September 2016 responsible for business planning and budgeting, governance, management information and coordinating strategy. Previously Shona worked with Lloyds Banking Group in a variety of roles including strategic projects and relationship management and latterly was a Senior Area Manager in the Mid Markets business, Commercial Banking. Shona holds an honours degree in Mathematics and Finance from Heriot Watt University, is a qualified Chartered Banker and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland.

David Sullivan joined Standard Life Wealth in 2007 from ABN Amro Private banking. David spent 10 years at ABN Amro, where he was a senior portfolio manager responsible for looking after the portfolios of private clients, small institutional pension funds and charities. David was also responsible for providing the investment advice for several externally managed, publicly listed funds. David is an associate member of the UK Society of Investment Professionals, and a member of the CFA Institute.

Patrick Trueman moved to Standard Life Wealth following the acquisition of the Newton private client business in 2013. He is Head of Charities and manages portfolios for private clients, trusts and pensions. He joined Newton in 2010 from Lehman Brothers where following the firm's collapse he was retained by PwC to work on unwinding the European Business. Before that, Patrick spent six years with the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards and served in a number of countries completing operational tours in the Balkans and the Middle East. Patrick has over six years of investment experience, holds the Investment Advice Diploma, the Private Client Investment and Management Certificate, is a Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments and holds an MBA from London Business School and an MA (Hons) in Geography from Cambridge University.

Rob Darling joined Standard Life Wealth from the Private Client Management area of Standard Life group providing financial advice and managing investment portfolios for high net worth and ultra-high net worth clients. Prior to this Rob fulfilled a variety of different roles across both the Intermediary and Business Development divisions. Rob is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment and holds a Diploma in Financial Planning as well as the CISI Investment Advice Diploma.

James England joined Standard Life Wealth in 2009 from UBS AG, where he was a Director and Client Adviser in UBS’s Wealth Management business in London. Prior to UBS, James trained with Deloitte and Touche and later with Grant Thornton in their financial markets consultancy groups. James holds the Investment Management Certificate and the Investment Advice Diploma and is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment. He is experienced in both the high net wor th private client and institutional investment markets. James has particular knowledge and experience in investment management for Charities and Defined Benefit Pension Schemes. As Head of Charity and Corporate Investing, James is responsible for leading, managing and developing Standard Life Wealth’s institutional business. James sits on the investment sub-committee of a major UK charity.

Alan Meechan

Alan Meechan joined the Standard Life group in October 2006 from Scottish Life where he worked as a consultant directly with financial intermediaries for over seven years. Having spent over seven years as an account manager at Standard Life, Alan moved to the Standard Life Wealth business development team in April 2014. With 15 years' experience dealing exclusively through the financial intermediary channel, Alan has a real understanding and appreciation of the financial planning sector.
Alan holds a diploma in financial planning, is a director of a local charity and sits on their management committee.

Mark Rondel

Mark has been based in Jersey for his entire working career and he has developed a network of contacts from the trust industry in Jersey, Guernsey, Isle of Man and Switzerland. He is a member of CISI and recently passed the Private Client Investment Advice and Management Level 6 qualification.

Jim Stacey joined the Standard Life group in May 1998 from Axa Sun Life where he worked as a broker consultant in the Birmingham office. Jim has spent the last 16 years as an Account Manager at Standard Life working exclusively with Financial Planners. In the last five years Jim has worked in the wealth management sector, working closely with advisers to help them to transition their business successfully into a post-RDR landscape. Jim moved to Standard Life Wealth in April 2014. With 18 years’ experience in the financial intermediary channel, Jim has a real understanding and appreciation of the financial planning sector and the regulatory and commercial challenges modem investment and advisory businesses face. Jim is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute and holds the Diploma in Financial Planning.

He joined Newton in 2010 where he had the same role.  Prior to Newton, Jake worked for Border Asset Management and held positions at Lombard Street Research, eChron AB and PWS Holdings.  Jake has six years of industry experience, holds the Investment Advice Diploma and holds a degree in French, Spanish and Portuguese from Bristol University.

Julie-Ann Ashcroft moved to Standard Life Wealth following the acquisition of the Newton private client business in 2013. She manages private client portfolios and is the lead manager of the Balanced Bridge Fund as well as the alternate manager of the Bridge Fund and a number of other specialist pooled vehicles. Julie-Ann joined Newton in 2007 as a portfolio manager from Mellon Global Investment where she worked as a performance analyst. Julie-Ann has eight years of investment experience and is a CFA Charterholder and a Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments. She completed four years of PhD research at Imperial College, London after graduating from Sheffield University.

Gair Brisbane joined the Charity Team at Standard Life Wealth in 2016, having previously specialised in charity investment management at Brown Shipley and Barclays Wealth. Gair has five years’ experience in the investment management sector and holds the Investment Management Certificate, the Private Client Investment Advice and Management and is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment. He is a trustee and finance committee member for a Scottish military charity and prior to Financial Services Gair spent six years in Military Intelligence, serving in a number of countries including the Middle East and Germany. Gair is a member of the Scottish Charity Finance Group, a graduate of Aberdeen University and has a particular interest in ethical investing.

Matthew Burrows joined Standard Life Wealth as a Senior Client Portfolio Manager in September 2015 to manage portfolios for private clients, pensions and trusts. Previously, Matthew worked as a Portfolio Manager on discretionary portfolios for charities, trusts, pensions and both institutional and private clients’ portfolios, as well as having experience with non-discretionary portfolio management. Matthew holds the Investment Management Certificate (IMC), has passed the CFA examinations and is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments (CISI). Before moving into the financial services industry, Matthew graduated from the University of Bristol with a BA (Hons) Degree with Oral Distinction in Russian Studies and afterwards commissioned into the British Army, serving with the Coldstream Guards.

Gill joined Newton in 2012 from Merrill Lynch, where she had responsibility for UK private client, charity and pension portfolios. Before joining the City, Gill worked as a goldsmith, having studied 3-dimensional design crafts at the Kent Institute of Art and Design. Gill has 15 years of investment experience, is a Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments, holds the Investment Management Certificate, the Private Client Investment and Management Certificate and the Financial Planning Certificate.

Anthony Emmings joined Standard Life Wealth from Lloyds Mayfair Private Banking in 2010, where he held the role of Senior Private Banking Manager, providing in-depth relationship management to high and ultra high net worth private clients.  He is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and a Member of the Chartered Insurance Institute. Anthony holds the Private Client Investment Advice and Management (Distinction) Diploma, the Investment Advice Diploma, the Diploma in Financial Planning and the Investment Management Certificate.

Laurence Gagen

Laurence Gagen is a Senior Client Portfolio Manager and joined Standard Life Wealth from Barclays Wealth and Investment Management. At Barclays, he was an Investment Analyst in London and Singapore before assuming the position of Portfolio Manager. At Standard Life Wealth, Laurence manages portfolios for a diverse range of private clients, charities and trusts. A graduate of Durham University, Laurence is a CFA Charterholder, holds the Investment Management Certificate and is a member of the Chartered Financial Analyst Society of the UK.

Alastair Garvie joined Standard Life Wealth in 2010 from Lloyds Mayfair Private Banking where he was a Senior Private Banking Manager. At Lloyds, Alastair was responsible for the management of discretionary and non-discretionary portfolios for ultra high net worth private clients, trusts and charities. Alastair holds the Investment Advice Diploma. He is also an Associate of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and has over 20 years’ of investment experience.

Matthew Grange

Matthew Grange joined Standard Life Wealth in 2015 and has over 18 years of investment experience. Matthew started his career managing private client portfolios and was the lead fund manager for a LSE listed Guernsey registered investment trust. Matthew subsequently spent over twelve years managing £500m+ equity portfolios for the final salary pension schemes of FTSE 100 and CAC 40 companies and an equity portfolio whilst working at ABN Amro. In addition Matthew has experience of many other asset classes, particularly commercial property and private equity. Matthew has attended and presented at numerous investment sub committees and investment advisory boards assisting trustees and their consultants in the asset allocation process. Matthew is an Associate of the CFA Society of the UK, holds the ASIP designation and graduated from the University of Exeter with a Masters in Finance & Investment.

Tony Hollingbery joined Standard Life Wealth as a Senior Client Portfolio Manager from Lloyds TSB Private Banking Mayfair in 2013. He brings 25 years’ experience within financial services across Personal, Commercial and Private Banking. Tony was responsible for attracting and then managing high net worth investment portfolios. Tony is a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and is a Chartered Financial Planner with the Chartered Insurance Institute.

Joanna joined Standard Life Wealth in 2008 from Barclays Wealth where she was a senior portfolio manager responsible for looking after the portfolios of private clients, smaller institutional pension funds and charities. Previously Joanna spent 7 years at Charles Stanley Stockbrokers. Joanna has over 16 years of investment experience and graduated from Loughborough University with a degree in Politics & Economics. Joanna is a Chartered Fellow of the Securities Institute and is an external specialist for the International Certificate in Wealth and Investment Management panel.

Patrick Trueman

Patrick Trueman moved to Standard Life Wealth following the acquisition of the Newton private client business in 2013. He is Head of Charities and manages portfolios for private clients, trusts and pensions. He joined Newton in 2010 from Lehman Brothers where following the firm's collapse he was retained by PwC to work on unwinding the European Business. Before that, Patrick spent six years with the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards and served in a number of countries completing operational tours in the Balkans and the Middle East. Patrick has over six years of investment experience, holds the Investment Advice Diploma, the Private Client Investment and Management Certificate, is a Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments and holds an MBA from London Business School and an MA (Hons) in Geography from Cambridge University.

Matthew Burrows

Matthew Burrows joined Standard Life Wealth as a Senior Client Portfolio Manager in September 2015 to manage portfolios for private clients, pensions and trusts. Previously, Matthew worked as a Portfolio Manager on discretionary portfolios for charities, trusts, pensions and both institutional and private clients’ portfolios, as well as having experience with non-discretionary portfolio management. Matthew holds the Investment Management Certificate (IMC), has passed the CFA examinations and is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments (CISI). Before moving into the financial services industry, Matthew graduated from the University of Bristol with a BA (Hons) Degree with Oral Distinction in Russian Studies and afterwards commissioned into the British Army, serving with the Coldstream Guards.

Matthew Grange

Matthew Grange joined Standard Life Wealth in 2015 and has over 18 years of investment experience. Matthew started his career managing private client portfolios and was the lead fund manager for a LSE listed Guernsey registered investment trust. Matthew subsequently spent over twelve years managing £500m+ equity portfolios for the final salary pension schemes of FTSE 100 and CAC 40 companies and an equity portfolio whilst working at ABN Amro. In addition Matthew has experience of many other asset classes, particularly commercial property and private equity. Matthew has attended and presented at numerous investment sub committees and investment advisory boards assisting trustees and their consultants in the asset allocation process. Matthew is an Associate of the CFA Society of the UK, holds the ASIP designation and graduated from the University of Exeter with a Masters in Finance & Investment.

Clare Huijnen

Clare Huijnen moved to Standard Life Wealth following the acquisition of the Newton private client business in 2013 and manages portfolios for international private clients. She joined Newton in 2013 from HSBC Private Bank where she managed globally diversified portfolios across all asset classes. Clare has 15 years of investment experience, she holds the Private Client Investment and Management diploma and the Investment Management Certificate, has passed the Securities Representative Exams, is a Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and has a BA in European Business Economics.

Charles Insley

Charles Insley moved to Standard Life Wealth following the acquisition of the Newton private client business in 2013 and manages portfolios for private clients, trusts and pensions. Charles joined Newton in 2000 and was Client Director, responsible for the strategic development of the firm’s private client service and communication. Charles has over 15 years of investment experience, is a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and holds the Investment Management Certificate and the Private Client Investment Advice Diploma. He graduated from Oxford Brookes University with an Honours degree in Applied Statistics and Marketing Management.

Adam Joy moved to Standard Life Wealth following the acquisition of the Newton private client business in 2013 and manages portfolios for private clients and trusts. He joined Newton in 2011 and has 15 years of investment experience acquired from roles as an investment analyst, portfolio manager and investment advisor working with both institutional and private client investors. He is a CFA Charterholder, holds the Investment Management Certificate, is a Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments and holds a BA in business from the University of West of England, Bristol.

Rory Montgomerie

Rory Montgomerie moved to Standard Life Wealth following the acquisition of the Newton private client business in 2013 and manages portfolios for private clients and pension funds. Rory joined Newton in 2002. He began his City-career when he joined Henderson in 1989. Rory has 23 years of investment experience, is a qualified solicitor, a Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments and holds a BA in law from Jesus College, Cambridge.

Toby Reynolds

Toby Reynolds joined Standard Life Wealth from Barclays Wealth in July 2012, where he was a Discretionary Portfolio Manager responsible for financial professionals, charities and private individuals. Toby graduated in 2000 with a BEng in Civil Engineering from the University of Nottingham and later that year started his career at a London stockbroker. He went on to become a discretionary manager at Smith & Williamson, where he was also responsible for equity and fund research. He subsequently managed client portfolios at Bestinvest and is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.

Mark has been based in Jersey for his entire working career and he has developed a network of contacts from the trust industry in Jersey, Guernsey, Isle of Man and Switzerland. He is a member of CISI and recently passed the Private Client Investment Advice and Management Level 6 qualification.

Rachel Kerr

Rachel Kerr is the SLW Business Change & Transformation Manager and joined Standard Life Wealth in 2011. Rachel has worked for Standard Life for over 20 years and over her career has held a number of positions across the company. Rachel holds the CISI Diploma in Investment Compliance and is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment.
